International "Non-Coffee" Day

International "Non-Coffee" Day

International Coffee Day is an occasion used to celebrate coffee as a beverage. Wait a minute… wouldn’t that be everyday? Coffee is the most consumed beverage worldwide, with over 2.25 billion cups being consumed daily. With that much consumption, you would assume that coffee drinkers love and obsession for their morning cup is a daily celebration, no?

Apparently, that’s not enough love for the little bean, and so a whole day has been dedicated to it.

For those who cannot drink coffee (whether it’s a caffeine intolerance, a coffee allergy, or suffering from a range of symptoms that can occur from drinking coffee) international coffee day could feel a little like pouring lemon juice on a wound: the love and desire for coffee is still there, but the break-up is still raw. What is one to do?

Luckily, ex-coffee drinkers can now partake in the festivities once more, with Nummy Creations.

Why drink Nummy?

For one, Nummy actually tastes like coffee. you get the full placebo effect of drinking a coffee, without the coffee.

Secondly, Nummy is made from really nutritious ingredients. Let's do a quick breakdown of each one.

dried dandelion root pile

Dandelion Root

Dandelions are one of the most misunderstood and hated plants for ruining the "perfect lawn". Did you know those ugly yellow weeds are chock full of antioxidants, vitamins and minerals that help the body function and heal? It's also full of inulin- a soluble fiber that supports the growth of healthy bacteria in your gut - which means lower blood sugar levels and better poops. Woohoo!

Dried chicory root pile

Chicory Root

This blue flowered plant is dandelion's hot cousin. Chicory root has a similar taste and color to coffee, but without the caffeine or negative health effects. Just like dandelion, it's also a good source of inulin fiber, which we know supports a healthy gut flora. High five to the dandelion family!

Dried barley pile

Barley Malt Extract

Malt extract is making a comeback. This trending food contains protein, fiber, potassium, folate, iron, and B vitamins, which have been shown to lower cholesterol and decrease the risk of heart disease. It's also a good source of polyphenols (poly-whah?) a powerful antioxidant that's anti-inflammatory and anti-microbial, to name a few.

rye pile

Rye Extract

Rye ranks high on the popularity list and is considered a superior grain due to its nutritional profile. High in fiber, magnesium, B-vitamins and antioxidants, it's earned a reputation for aiding weight loss and lowering the insulin response, helping to balance blood sugar levels.
